Majerhat bridge in South Kolkata collapsed today following heavy rainfall, leaving at least five people dead and several others trapped. The bridge connects Behala to other parts of Kolkata and runs over the Majerhat railway station. The accident reportedly occurred during peak traffic hours leaving many cars trapped. Ambulances have reached the spot and rescue operations are underway.
