To launch the Bailey bridge without crossing the river, the engineers cleverly use the principle of torque balancing. In the initial stages, the torque on the left side is greater, keeping the bridge stable. However, in the final stage, the torque on the right side increases, causing the free end of the bridge to fall onto the opposite riverbank.
