China's nuclear arsenal is rapidly expanding, Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) stated. China's active intercontinental nuclear missiles could equal the US and Russia by 2030, it stated. The Chinese stockpile of nuclear weapons grew from 410 to 500 operational warheads in 2023, SIPRI added. China is also believed to be deploying warheads during peacetime, the report stated.
