Union Cabinet has approved the Terms of Reference of 8th Pay Commission for revising salaries of nearly 50 lakh government staffers. It will give its recommendations within 18 months of its constitution. The five points it needs to consider while giving recommendations include fiscal prudence, unfunded cost of non-contributory pension schemes, impact on states and current salary structure.
