California governor signs first US law banning food dye in schools

California has become the first US state to ban food dyes from being used in meals served at schools. Governor Gavin Newsom signed the first-in-the-nation law, barring schools from serving artificial food dyes. The legislation would go into effect on December 31, 2027, as the California School Food Safety Act will forbid schools serving eatables containing artificial dyes.
