Can calcium help prevent high blood pressure in pregnancy?

Calcium supplements may reduce the risk of preeclampsia, a dangerous pregnancy condition marked by high blood pressure. A 500 mg daily dose was linked to nearly 50% lower risk, especially in women with low dietary calcium. Starting supplementation early in pregnancy may offer the best protection for both mother and baby.
