Can genetics predict schizophrenia or bipolar disorder?

Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder have significant genetic components, but they involve many genes interacting with environmental and developmental factors. A family history can help doctors assess risk, but genetic testing cannot currently predict with certainty whether a healthy person will develop either illness.
