When asked about US Defense Secretary's comments that "China was preparing to invade Taiwan by 2027", Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for China's Taiwan Affairs Office said, "Taiwan is a part of China; there is no invasion to speak of." China views democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory. Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te said China has no legal right to claim Taiwan.
