A new study presented at ASM Microbe 2025 found that rising levels of fungal spores in outdoor air can help forecast flu and COVID-19 surges, especially during fall. The research, based in Puerto Rico, showed no such link with pollen, highlighting fungal spores as potential early warning indicators.
