Vaccination during pregnancy can protect both mother and baby from serious infections. Maternal antibodies can cross the placenta and offer newborns early protection. Dr Sarada Vani says vaccines such as Td, Tdap and inactivated influenza may be recommended during pregnancy, while live vaccines are generally avoided. Women should consult their doctor to follow a suitable vaccination schedule.
