Canada bans removing passengers from overbooked planes

Canadian Transport Minister Marc Garneau on Tuesday made it illegal for airlines to remove passengers from any flights arriving or leaving Canada due to overbooking. Unveiling a passenger bill of rights, Garneau said airlines must increase the compensation offered if passengers do not volunteer to give up their seats. Garneau said this would ensure travellers were not treated like "numbers."
