Canada's population declined by 0.2% in 2025 for the first time since the country began tracking its population in 1867. Statistics Canada said that despite population rising by 77,136 in the first six months of 2025, it declined by 179,572 in the second half of the year. Canada's population as of January 1, 2026 was 41.4 million.
