Canada's Quebec town recognises fundamental rights of trees

A Quebec municipality has recognised fundamental rights of trees, including their right to life, growth, integrity and regeneration. Terrasse-Vaudreuil unanimously adopted principles from the Universal Declaration of Tree Rights. The move does not grant trees legal personhood but creates an ethical and institutional framework for their protection, while promoting tree planting and biodiversity.
