The Karnataka government on Saturday banned carpooling in Bengaluru, adding that a fine of up to ₹10,000 can be levied and the registration certificate of the vehicle can be suspended if found guilty. The state transport department termed using whiteboard vehicles for commercial commute purposes as "illegal". The government took the decision after it received complaints from cab associations.
