Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways posted a record annual loss of around $2.8 billion in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The carrier described it as "the most challenging 12 months of its more than 70-year history". Cathay Pacific expects to operate at below 50% passenger capacity in 2021 as Hong Kong has largely closed its borders to non-residents.
