Left-wing politician Catherine Connolly was elected as new Irish President by a landslide margin on Saturday. A critic of the European Union, she has also questioned the trustworthiness of US, Britain and France over their stance on the war in Gaza. Connolly is also one of the leading pro-Palestinian voices in parliament. She was elected with 63.4% of the vote.
