Census 2027 deferred in Manipur amid demand to first conduct NRC

Manipur government said the Centre has decided to defer the Census 2027 exercise in the state following a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The decision came after demands from people to conduct Census only after implementing the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Census's first phase was scheduled to begin on September 1 and continue until September 30.
