NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar said the Central government should bring a constitutional amendment to raise the reservation beyond the existing cap of 50%. "Currently, the cap on reservation is 50%. But if Tamil Nadu can have 78% (quota for various communities), why can't Maharashtra have 75% reservation," he added. Maharashtra had witnessed protests over demands of the Maratha quota.
