Chad eliminates sleeping sickness as a public health problem

Chad has become the first country in 2024 and the 51st globally to eliminate a neglected tropical disease-the gambiense form of human African trypanosomiasis, also known as sleeping sickness, caused by protozoan parasites that spread via infected tsetse flies. This announcement by WHO marks a victory in ongoing fight against these debilitating diseases that primarily affect low-income populations.
