Chennai's Taj Connemara, built in 1854, reopens post makeover

Chennai's iconic 147-room Taj Connemara reopened on Tuesday after a year-long renovation and redesign. The hotel, named after the then Madras Governor Lord Connemara, opened in 1854 as "Imperial". The preservation of Art Deco façade and interiors will showcase the hotel's original features including wooden carvings sourced from the 16th and 17th-century temples of Mahabalipuram.
