Erik Allebest, from Stanford Business School, founded Chess.com after creating two other chess ventures. Frustrated with SEO strategies, he sold Wholesale Chess for $2.5M and invested $55K in Chess.com. Teaming up with Jay Severson, they built a premier online chess community. Their platform grew from 1M members in 2010 to over 100M by 2022.
