Chewing sugary gum after drinking beetroot juice may modestly enhance the drink's blood pressure-lowering effects, according to a new study at King's College London. Researchers found the gum boosted nitrite production by stimulating beneficial oral bacteria. However, experts stress the findings are preliminary and should not encourage regular sugary gum consumption for heart health.
