India recorded a sixfold jump in cases registered under Prohibition of Child Marriage Act in 2023 as compared to 2022, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data revealed. Assam alone accounted for nearly 90% of the total cases recording 5,267 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu (174). The data showed 16,737 girls and 129 boys were kidnapped or abducted "for marriage".
