Children's book author jailed for over 10 yrs for beating, starving adopted kids in US

Jennifer Wolfthal, children's book author, and her husband Joseph, an engineer, have been jailed for over 10 years for beating and starving their adopted children in Florida. The case began after their eight-year-old malnourished daughter, who had skin infection, was hospitalised with organ failure and pneumonia. Their two other kids said they were made to write 'I'm a fool' repeatedly.

China hits back at US, raises tariffs on US goods to 125%

China will impose 125% tariffs on US goods from Saturday, up from the 84% previously announced, China's finance ministry said on Friday. Separately, Chinese President Xi Jinping said China is "not afraid of any unreasonable suppression". Earlier, US President Trump announced a 90-day tariff pause on most countries but raised tariffs on Chinese imports to an effective rate of 145%.

After the Mumbai terror attacks that killed 166 people were completed, terrorist Tahawwur Rana told co-conspirator David Headley that "Indians deserved it", US' Department of Justice (DoJ) said. Rana also commended the nine Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists who were killed while committing the attack, DoJ said. He said they should get Pakistan's highest gallantry award Nishan-e-Haider, it added.

Google lays off hundreds of employees: Report

Google has laid off hundreds of employees working on its Android software, Pixel phone and Chrome browser teams, The Information reported. The job cuts follow the company's January buyout offers to employees. "Since combining Platforms and Devices teams last year, we've focused on becoming more nimble and operating more effectively and this included some job cuts," a Google spokesperson said.

Visuals have shown Mumbai terror attacks mastermind Tahawwur Rana being handed over to Indian authorities by US Marshals, before his extradition to India on Thursday. A picture showed the 64-year-old in chains and surrounded by Marshals during the handover. Rana was sent to 18-custody of National Investigation Agency (NIA) after he was brought to Delhi.

Sensex soared over 1,000 points and was trading above 75,000 at open on Friday, while Nifty was trading over 345 points higher, at 22,744. Sun Pharma, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, L&T and Reliance were among the top gainers. The Sensex had closed over 300 points lower on Wednesday amid the trade war following US President Donald Trump's tariffs.

Siemens Mobility CEO Agustin, his family killed as helicopter crashes in New York river

Global CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility, Agustin Escobar, and his family were among those killed after a helicopter crashed in New York's Hudson River. The helicopter was a Bell 206 operated by New York Helicopter, which runs sightseeing tours. New York City's Police Commissioner Jessica S Tisch said that the cause of the crash is under investigation.
