China has begun using anal swabs to test those it considers at high risk of contracting COVID-19. The saline-soaked cotton swab is inserted about two-to-three centimetres into the anus and the sample is tested for active traces of the virus. A research suggested that traces of the virus found in the anus can last longer than in the respiratory tract.
