China builds world's first quantum network to hunt for dark matter
short by Neeraja Nath / on Friday, 30 January, 2026
Chinese scientists have created the world's first quantum sensor network designed to detect dark matter. They deployed five synchronised sensors in Hefei and Hangzhou with advanced amplification and timing to detect fleeting axion signals. Though no dark matter encounter was recorded, the team set stronger constraints on axion interactions and plans to expand the network worldwide and into space.
