China faces blood donation crisis as public trust declines

China is facing a blood donation shortage as declining trust and demographic changes reduce donor numbers. Reports said rates remain below those of high-income countries, while medical demand is rising. Falling youth participation, an ageing population and concerns over the donation system are creating challenges. The national donation rate stood at 10.9 donors per 1,000 people by mid-2026.
