China Gate Restaurant fined ₹50,000 for forcing customer to pay service charge

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) imposed a ₹50,000 penalty on China Gate Restaurant, which operates Mumbai's Bora Bora outlets, for levying service charge by default in bills. A customer complained that the restaurant levied 10% service charge and refused to remove it despite his request. CCPA noted that Bora Bora charged GST even on the service charge.
