A Chinese military court handed suspended death sentences to former defence ministers Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu in a major corruption crackdown under President Xi Jinping. State media said the sentences would later be commuted to life imprisonment after a two-year reprieve. Both ex-officials were convicted in bribery cases and stripped of political rights and personal property for life.
