China has suspended the global exports of minerals like antimony, germanium and gallium which are important for the defence and chipmaking sectors, Reuters reported. These minerals are called "rare earths", and China has a monopoly on extracting and refining them. The suspension is reportedly part of China's retaliation for the US government's decision to increase trade tariffs.
