China jails artist for satirical Mao sculptures under law which came after the artwork
Chinese artist Gao Zhen, known for making satirical sculptures of former leader Mao Zedong, has been sentenced to three years in prison for defaming China's "heroes and martyrs" under a 2018 law. "The court has now sentenced him...for artwork he made [around] 2005...years before the law...even existed," rights groups said. Gao was in detention for the past two years.
