China puts 'robocops' on traffic duty, but without arrest powers
Chinese technology firm SUPCON Information has deployed 15 wheeled robots in Hangzhou to manage traffic and detect violations. Using cameras, radar and onboard computing, the robots identify helmetless riders, e-bikes carrying passengers, vehicles crossing marked lines and signal-jumping pedestrians. Though they cannot make arrests, the "robocops" have helped reduce traffic violations by over 40%.
