China's 13% tax on condoms comes into effect

China removed a 30-year-old tax exemption on condoms and contraceptive drugs from January 1 in a bid to improve birth rates in the country. Condoms and contraceptive drugs will now incur value-added tax of 13%. China's population fell for a third consecutive year in 2024, with experts warning that the downturn will continue.
