China scavenger finds $63,000 in forgotten pension after 21 years

A 71-year-old man in China, who spent 21 years scavenging rubbish, discovered 424,204 yuan (US$63,000) in his pension account. Ru, who was laid off after 30 years at a state-owned shop, had unknowingly left his pension unclaimed. Social assistance officials found him living in an abandoned building in 2024 and helped uncover his entitlement, offering him hope for fresh start.
