The number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 at hospitals across China has risen more than five-fold since April, reaching over 40% of those tested at the end of May, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention's data showed. China reported 164 deaths in May among those who contracted COVID-19. Around 2,770 people suffered severe infections.
