Taiwan's Defence Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng on Thursday said no matter who wins in any future war between Taiwan and China, it will be a "miserable victory". He added that it was best for everyone to "avoid wars". China claims the democratically governed island as its own and has pledged to bring it under Chinese control, by force if necessary.
