A man in China lost 4.3 million yuan (about $611,800) after he mistook a scammer for his friend during a video call and transferred the money. According to local police, the fraudster used AI-based face-swapping technology to dupe the victim. The scam got revealed after the friend of the victim expressed ignorance of the situation, police added.
