The US Central Intelligence Agency has declassified some documents that reportedly reveal, in the days leading to the 1975 Emergency, it had little or no information of ex-PM Indira Gandhi’s intention. The documents also reveal that the lack of intelligence on India’s moves in the run-up to the 1971 war with Pakistan limited the diplomatic options available to the US.
