An initiative called 'Capital Kiwi Project', led by citizens of New Zealand's capital Wellington, is re-establishing the endangered kiwi birds in the area after over a century of absence. "They are a part of who we are and our sense of belonging here," the project's co-founder, Paul Ward, said. Today, only about 70,000 kiwis are left across the country.
