An undersea eruption off Japan's Iwoto Island birthed a brand-new volcanic islet in the Pacific. The explosive event captured by photographers Kazuhiro Ichikawa and Kotaro Ebara, showed jets of ash and steam punching out of sea. The eruption began in October 2023, and by November, the newborn island measured around 100 metres across, rising tens of metres above the waves.
