Speaking about the criticism of collegium system in which judges appoint judges, Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai said that reforms in the system can't be at the cost of judicial independence. He stated the top court struck down National Judicial Appointments Commission Act in 2015 as it tried to dilute independence of judges.
