'Comet strike may have started ancient global warming'

According to a recent study, a comet may have struck Earth around 55 million years ago, triggering an atmospheric carbon surge, raising temperatures by up to 8°C and causing huge wildlife migrations and extinctions. As evidence to their claim, the researchers announced the discovery of glassy, dark beads that look like microtektites, the debris created when comets strike Earth.
