Congress on Saturday managed to retain the Kolhapur North Assembly seat in Maharashtra as its candidate Jadhav Jayshri Chandrakant defeated BJP's Satyajeet Kadam by over 19,000 votes in the by-polls. The by-polls were necessitated after Congress MLA Chandrakant Jadhav died of COVID-19 in December 2021. Congress fielded his widow from the seat and she got 97,332 votes.
