National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed TwentyOne Sugars Ltd in Maharashtra's Nanded district to pay over ₹1.67 crore in compensation for environmental damage and the farmers' loss. The sugar factory is controlled by Congress leader Amit Deshmukh. The order came in response to a plea filed jointly by 31 farmers, accusing the factory of discharging effluents/pollutants and seeking compensation.
