The remains of a collapsed bridge in the northern Italian city of Genoa were demolished in a controlled explosion, paving the way for a new structure. The Morandi bridge collapsed last year, killing 43 people. Thousands of people had been evacuated ahead of the explosion to bring down two large towers consisting of about 4,500 tonnes of concrete and steel.
