Allahabad High Court ordered UP government to pay ₹2 lakh compensation to a man who was illegally detained for eight days and recover the sum from Assistant Commissioner of Police who detained him. Calling the situation in Prayagraj commissionerate a "shocking state of affairs", HC said the Commissioner has been given the powers of a Magistrate, which are being "misused".
