A new University of York study suggests the common childhood BK virus may raise bladder cancer risk later in life. When immunity weakens, the virus can reactivate and trigger DNA-damaging antiviral enzymes, causing mutations. This bystander effect may harm even healthy cells. Early antiviral treatment and lifestyle measures may help reduce future risk.
