Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said on Monday that the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise is the ninth such exercise since 1951 and the last SIR was conducted 21 years ago in 2002-2004. This comes as the Election Commission of India announced a nationwide SIR exercise, which will be held in the second phase in 12 states.
