CV Raman was the 1st Indian to win a Nobel Prize for science

Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman was the first Indian to receive the Nobel Prize for science. He was awarded the Nobel in Physics in 1930 for his discovery of a new radiation effect on February 28, 1928. The 'Raman effect' is the change in the wavelength of light that occurs when a light beam is deflected by molecules in excited state.
