The death toll from the new coronavirus in China has now exceeded that of the 2003 severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) epidemic in the country. The total number of deaths from the new coronavirus has risen to 361. The 2003 outbreak of SARS, another coronavirus strand, infected over 5,300 people in China, with 349 deaths.
